Good morning.
Imagine your best friend had a date last night and she talks about how charming and smart her date was and all the details of the conversation she had with the date last night.
Then you ask, what does he do for living.
Scenario 1: Your best friend replied saying he is a lawyer.
You are probably going to picture that the date wore an expensive suit and probably went to a very good school.
Scenario 2: Your best friend replied saying he is a construction worker.
You are probably going to picture that the date is muscular, tall and tanned.
In each scenario, the information supplied by your best friend about the date suddenly don’t matter to you when you find out what the date does for living because you have assigned your knowledge of how a lawyer or construction worker looks like on the date. This process is called representative heuristic.
Representative heuristic can help us to identify if the person in front of us is dangerous or valuable faster but it can also lead us to prejudice.

representative heuristicは、私たちに目の前の人が危険か有益かを素早く判断します。でも、気をつけないと目の前の人を勝手に偏見の目で見てしまう可能性もありますよ！
