作者のSudhir氏は当時社会学の大学生でした。公共政策をもっと発展するプロジェクトに参加しました。
より良いの公共政策を作るため、社会の問題を深く、正しく認識する必要があると思い、実際に暴力団を訪問することにしたのです。
J.T.氏は暴力団のリーダーであり、Sudhir氏を殺さず自分のストーリーをシェアしました。
意外なことは、J.T.氏は大学から卒業して普通の会社で働いていたということです。
しかし、J.T.氏が働いていた会社の中に人種差別主義者がいました。
J.T.氏は会社員として能力はありますが、自分は黒人のため、昇進されていないままでした。
ある日、自分より能力が低い白人の同僚が昇進されると、J.T.氏の心の怒りを抑えることができず仕事を辞めてしまいました。そして、暴力団の世界に入ったのです。
一つの問題が雪玉のように大きくなっていく内容にとても衝撃を受けました。

Sudhir, the author, studied sociology and was doing a project to design a better public policy.
He thought how he can design a better public policy without knowing more about the real life issues, such as gangs.
Sudhir decided to know more about them by actually visiting them and talking to them.
J.T., the gang leader, was willing to share his stories with Sudhir instead of killing Sudhir.
To my surprise, J.T. went to college and had a regular job once. However, racism existed in his company. (J.T. is a black person.) He was a skilled employee and worked hard. However, when a less skilled white employee got promoted but not him, he got angry and decided to quite the job and run a gang.
It is surprising to see how a problem snowballed into another bigger issue.
